single, 1949
Written by Felix Gross
This crooning blues opens with the sly feint of bells, and a couple bars of "Jingle Bells" before the tinkling piano comes in, and the song slides into a slow-burning, smoky barroom blues. It's all languid groove, and sax solos don't come any slow and sultry than the one here by Joe Howard. All the narrator of this song wants is love, baby, dismissing the usual holiday trappings: turkey, dressing, pie, "Blue champagne and rock and rye / Everything that money can buy" in favor of the one thing on his mind. "Give me your love / Well, for my Christmas gift."
