Let's Get High - Rosco Gordon
2:40
single, 1955
Written by Rosco Gordon
This R&B hidden gem is a cheerful clarion call for partying, livened up with a very buzzy sax. "High" here means drunk, probably, although there could easily be a knowing unsaid reference to the devil's weed. "Let's start out on whiskey, let's let it be our ruin / Let's get so high 'til we won't know what we're doing." The punchline of the song is that the alcohol has cost the narrator all his money and give him a headache, but he regrets nothing.
