Country Squire, 2019
Written by Tyler Childers
This is a beautiful country love song, but there's something almost soulful about the way Childers sings it. The arrangement is fairly spare and old-fashioned— a sort of fusion of '70s soul and classic country rock), with a warm organ and steady rhythm underneath his rough, passionate voice. The lyrics are straightforward without being trite: he's promising to remain devoted despite the complications of life on the road with his wife, a fellow musician ("The road cones blur like memories / Of the miles we shared between"). Childers delivers it with such conviction that it isn't corny even when he calls her "the goddess in my Days Inn pen," but earnest.
