The Frights are categorized as surf rock or dirty doo wop, but on this song they slow things down to a sort of low-fi garage pop, with a hint of surf guitar. Lyrically, the song extols the virtues of being young and uncertain and getting hickies. The lyrics, while unfortunately repeated ad nauseam as is usual in this genre, are arch and self-deprecating: "Do you like my style? Have you seen my shoes? / 'Cause they've been ripped to shit from walking the world for you." Now that's a declaration of love. Cole Porter, eat your heart out.
